Off of I-270 on the way to Denver International Airport from Boulder, there's a refinery of some sort. It almost always smells heavily of sulfur compounds, and there's always steam/smoke and flames. It's very industrial. I had always wanted to take some photos of the area. I had some downtime recently after dropping my mom off at the airport so I drove into the area with the intention of taking pictures. As I was putting a polarizer on my lens, a security guard appeard out of nowhere. He wasn't rude, but fairly aggressively asked me what I was doing. I told him I wanted to take pictures, and he said that it wasn't allowed. We had a short conversation about the procedure to follow if I wanted to get permission and we even discussed how beautiful this abandoned building was in the midst of all these refinery tanks. I ended up leaving without taking a single shot, but as I drove away, I decided to turn into the neighborhood next to the refinery and take a shot anyway.
I can understand this company's policy regarding photos of their property, though I wonder what IS the legality of shooting a photo of private property from a distance. Nevertheless, this is a beautiful building. A pity I couldn't take my original shot...
