At work, we often do what we call "Java Fridays." It is a chance for the developers in my group to share with one another the new technologies that we try to explore. In the business of making software, it is very difficult to stay current. Java Fridays are one of the ways in which we try. On a Java Friday, we usually go out to lunch, typically at "Old Chicago's" a pizza joint. This shot was taken through a beer mug (there were a couple of Becks, a couple of Old Peculiers, and a Black and Tan). as you can see from the camera settings, I had left the ISO a bit too high from a previous set of shots. D'oh! Still, I'm glad that I got lucky and had a fairly shallow depth of field. The interesting thing is that my camera was probably 2 inches from the beer mug; a much shorter distance than the lens was capable of focusing (the D70 kit lens). But due to the funny optics of shooting through a beer mug, the camera was fooled into thinking it had some sort of focus lock, though to be honest, I'm not sure on exactly what.
