I know that one of the basic lessons in photography is to have a strong subject - something this photo lacks. I spent a bit of time yesterday wandering around the Boulder Creek Festival. There were tons of people wandering around sampling foods, enjoying the weather, and generally people watching. I wish I were brave enough to wander in with a wide lens and start snapping photos of people in the crowd, but I'm not. Instead I took photos from afar - which doesn't really work well in my opinion. I saw another guy with a digital SLR shooting shots with a long lens. I think that also doesn't work.
